Teenage motorcyclist at the Nordic Center

Submitted by Dirk Schoonmaker

Several teenagers were sharing a motorcycle, going riding offroad for 20 minutes at a time in the vicinity of the Nordic Center, returning to the neighborhood and turning over the motorcycle to the next rider. At about 3:30 pm a rider did not return. The others went out looking for him for about 2 hours and then called 911. TNSAR was dispatched at about 5:30 and members responded in trucks, with mountain bikes and on motorcycles and ATV's.

For the next 2 hours TNSAR members searched all the trails in the Nordic Center and up to the Fiberboard Freeway as well as to Carnelian Bay and Tahoe City without success. As members were returning to the staging area to come up with another plan, they came upon the motorcyclist lying in the trail on the Extra Green nordic trail, obviously deceased, apparently due to a traumatic injuy caused by a crash.

PCSO was led to the scene to investigate and team members returned to Burton Creek Sheriff's Office to debrief.
