2 women 3/4 mile from HWY 88, Eldorado County

Submitted by DIRK SCHOONMAKER

Two women and a dog skied from their car on Highway 88 at the Lumberyard Trailhead on Saturday as a storm was blowing in. Saturday evening they texted their family that they were lost and possibly hurt. Their family did not receive the text until Sunday morning and called 911. Eldorado County SAR put snowshoers in the field but were unable to follow the women's track due to \too much snow\ so the MPs had to spend a second night in the field. At 4 pm on Sunday TNSAR was called and asked to be at the Command Post at the town of Pioneer at 9 am Monday morning.

The team drove 4.5 hours to get there, then waited for 2 hours while a CHP helicopter picked up the 2 women 3/4 of a mile highway 88, where they had bivouacked for 2 nights.
