Snow Valley Peak
10/16/05

5 SAR members showed up on this windy, clear day. A dusting of snow from the day before still lingered in the shady spots - Not quite shorts weather, but warm and cold spots, the wind chill a big factor up along the ridge near Snow Valley Peak (I think Jim actually braved the REAL wind and bagged the transmitter laden peak). GREAT views. A couple of GPS checks, able to identify lots of peaks rarely seen from a single spot. In general a casual hike on a manicured trail ending up with a stroll down Aspen Lane, and around Spooner Lake. Besides the GPS, map, and peak identification practice, as backcountry first responders, we were all on high alert & ready to offer assistance to a wide variety of potential situations. Strollers, mountain bikes, wayward SUV's, Forest Service trucks, horses, dogs, and hundreds of sightseers who may have needed help with their digital cameras all passed our scrutiny. Fortunately our help was not needed this day so we concluded our 12.4 mile very scenic exercise, let our lunch allowance ride, and headed back to our other duties. Thanks to Karen for an informative, picturesque day
